Context:

Following a study of image-making as distillation, translation, and contextualization, I addressed the metaphorical potential of images with this project. I made a critical analysis of Roland Barthes' essay on plastics, excerpted from Mythologies, and researched analogies to illustrate major themes.
The analogy above was developed into a sequence of images juxtaposed with text from the essay. I chose to contemplate the theme of transformation by means of continental drift and the recession of polar ice by exploring The New York Times archives. The final artist book was printed and hand-bound on Newsprint Oatmeal #70.
